Mr Andrew Mitchell - The Secretary of State for International Development, June 2010
The Accountability in Tanzania Programme (AcT) is funded by UKAid from the Department for International Development (DFID) to support Tanzanians seeking greater accountability from their government.
At AcT, we believe that increased accountability leads to more responsive government that can deliver sustainable improvements in public services.
We also believe that a strong and vibrant civil society is vital to achieve greater transparency and accountability in governance. We have been set up to support civil society organisations (CSOs) to achieve this through the mechanism of strategic grants.
For CSOs whose core business is governance and accountability, we make grants based on existing strategic plans. We also welcome applications from other CSOs for project funding where the project objectives are aligned with AcT’s objectives. For information on how to apply for AcT funding see Become a CSO Partner.
In addition to providing funds, AcT also works with its partners to strengthen practices of planning, monitoring and documentation. The aim of this is to assist partners to become more strategic and effective in what they do and to aid learning of what works well and what does not work quite as well to strengthen accountability. For more information on this see AcT’s Approach.
