During the last quarter of 2012, AcT engaged a consultant, Prof. Simeon Mesaki to carry out a study aimed at tracking back reported citizen’s action in order to understand their dynamics and establish relationship (if any) to the CSOs information access activities. The study was meant to bring a better understanding of the dynamics behind the observed increase in number of ordinary citizens that decide to take action when demanding for better services, access to resources or other rights. While there are many factors behind the observed increase, the study focused on seeking to better understand the relationship between ‘access to information’ and ‘increased citizen action’. TFCG & MJUMITA: Forest Disturbance & Biodiversity Survey Results

Demoralised Kisarawe and Kibaha district residents and authorities have forwarded their final appeal to President Jakaya Kikwete to rescue three key forests in Coast Region which are at the verge of depletion saying their efforts to protect the greenbelt have failed due to rampant corruption. The forests are Kazimzumbwi, Pugu and Ruvu South reserves that are home to endangered primate and bird species. Read full story here

HakiElimu launches primary education campaign

On September 2012, HakiElimu launched a pre- primary education campaign to create public awareness on the importance of pre primary education to the development of primary education in the country. The campaign calls for policy makers to set specific budgets for pre primary education, as well as to address challenges in provision of pre primary education. In executing this campaign, they are broadcasting two TV and Radio spots on national and local stations . One of these spots depicts challenges encountered in the provision of pre primary education. The second set of spots portays the ideal the pre primary education. The spots can be seen on their youtube channel.
